Mansun emerged in the mid-'90s as a departure from Brit-pop, drawing inspiration from bands like Suede and the Manic Street Preachers. Led by vocalist Paul Draper, the band's dark, grandiose sound combined hard rock intensity with New Romantic swagger, earning them a devoted fan base. Their debut album, "Attack of the Grey Lantern," unexpectedly debuted at number one in 1997, establishing Mansun as one of the most respected new British groups of the year.
Following Mansun's split in 2003, Paul Draper pursued production and composition work before launching his solo career with Kscope Records in 2016. His debut album, "Spooky Action," was released in 2017, and he continues to perform live, including a full rendition of "Attack of the Grey Lantern" for its 21st anniversary. In 2020, a comprehensive Mansun retrospective titled "Closed for Business" was released to commemorate 25 years since the band's formation.
