Madlib, born Otis Jackson, Jr. in 1973, is a renowned hip-hop artist who describes himself as a DJ first, producer second, and MC last. Emerging in the early '90s, he has created a unique sound primarily using old-school recording and sampling gear, earning praise for his work under various aliases such as Quasimoto and Beat Konducta. Collaborating with leading hip-hop performers, some of his acclaimed albums include Soundpieces: Da Antidote! (1999), Madvillainy (2004), and Bandana (2019) with Freddie Gibbs.

Starting with the group Lootpack in 1990, Madlib's musical journey expanded to various projects such as Yesterdays New Quintet and Jaylib. Over the years, he has produced for a diverse range of artists, including Mos Def and Erykah Badu. Madlib is also known for his instrumental series like Beat Konducta and the Madlib Medicine Show. Continuously innovating, he remains a prolific figure in the underground rap scene with recent releases like Sound Ancestors (2021) and Champagne for Breakfast (2023) with Meyhem Lauren and DJ Muggs.
