Biography

Lush, a prominent shoegaze/dream pop band of the early '90s, blended dreamy guitars and catchy melodies. Led by Miki Berenyi and Emma Anderson, the British group gained a cult following but never received the same critical acclaim as peers like My Bloody Valentine and Ride. Despite this, Lush's career lasted longer than many contemporaries, evolving from dream pop to power pop with their final album, 1996's Lovelife, which brought them chart success but was followed by the tragic death of drummer Chris Acland.

Formed in 1987 in London, Lush consisted of Berenyi, Anderson, Acland, Steve Rippon, and Meriel Barham. The band quickly garnered attention, securing a contract with 4AD and releasing acclaimed EPs like Scar and Gala. Their debut album, Spooky, reached the British Top Ten in 1992, but subsequent releases like Split faced mixed reviews due to changing music trends. After a successful musical transition with Lovelife in 1996, Lush disbanded following Acland's untimely death, with members pursuing other musical projects until their 2015 reunion and subsequent releases.
