Los Relámpagos del Norte

Los Relámpagos del Norte, a pioneering norteño-conjunto group, led by Ramón Ayala, revolutionized songcraft and technique in the genre. They brought norteño music into the mainstream while maintaining a poignant "cantina" loneliness. Formed in 1961, the group's influence on the music scene remains evident in their numerous recordings.

Cornelio Reyna, born in 1940, and Ramón Ayala, born in 1945, joined forces in Los Relámpagos del Norte, with Reyna on bajo sexto and Ayala showcasing his accordion talent. Signed by BEGO Records in 1963, they gained popularity with hits like "Ya No Llores." After splitting in 1971, Reyna pursued ranchero singing and acting, while Ayala found success with Los Bravos del Norte. The group reunited for an album in 1995 and was inducted into the Pura Vida Music Hall of Fame in 1997, leaving a lasting impact on Mexican music.
