Biography
Los Fugitivos, a prominent force in the '90s onda grupera scene, shaped their keyboard-driven Cumbias and breezy pop sound. Formed as Grupo Kariño in 1985 by brothers Jaime and Edi Espinoza, the addition of singer/keyboardist Roberto Nieto in 1991 transformed them into los Fugitivos. Their early success came with covers like "Esperando Por Ti," a Spanish rendition of Richard Marx's "Right Here Waiting," and "La Loca" by Jose Luis Perales in 1993, which landed them on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart. Subsequent hits included their rendition of Roberto Carlos' "Pajaro Herido" from the album Secretos in 1998. The band underwent a lineup change in 1999 when Hekar Rivero replaced Nieto, coinciding with their shift to Sony Discos and the release of their album Mi Última Tentación.
