Hailing from Nottingham, England, Lone, the moniker of Matt Cutler, is known for his vibrant, genre-blurring music that spans acid house, instrumental hip-hop, and jungle. After gaining recognition with releases like Lemurian (2008), he explored various styles, from house on Emerald Fantasy Tracks (2010) to jungle on Levitate (2016), before blending dream pop and ambient house on Always Inside Your Head (2021). Before Lone, Cutler was part of the duo Kids in Tracksuits and released early works reminiscent of folktronica, eventually finding a unique sound influenced by Madlib and Boards of Canada.
