Hailing from Nottingham, England, Lone, the moniker of Matt Cutler, is known for his vibrant, genre-blurring music that spans acid house, instrumental hip-hop, and jungle. After gaining recognition with releases like Lemurian (2008), he explored various styles, from house on Emerald Fantasy Tracks (2010) to jungle on Levitate (2016), before blending dream pop and ambient house on Always Inside Your Head (2021). Before Lone, Cutler was part of the duo Kids in Tracksuits and released early works reminiscent of folktronica, eventually finding a unique sound influenced by Madlib and Boards of Canada.

With a penchant for '90s hardcore and rave, Lone's sound evolved over the years, culminating in standout releases like Reality Testing (2014) and Levitate (2016), showcasing his love for jungle music. He continued to experiment with diverse sounds, from his DJ-Kicks entry in 2017 to breakbeat-heavy club cuts on the Ancient Astronauts imprint in 2019. Returning to his roots, Cutler unveiled early material through albums like the Greenhills Road Archive Traks series in 2020 and collaborated with Kettama on an EP. In 2021, Lone signed with Greco-Roman and released Always Inside Your Head, drawing inspiration from shoegaze, downtempo, ambient pop, and IDM.
