Biography

Locksmith, born Davood Asgari in 1984 in Richmond, California, rose to fame in the early 2000s as a rapper and producer of Persian and African-American descent. Alongside Left, he formed the socially conscious rap duo the Frontline, releasing their debut album Who R You in 2004 and gaining recognition for their positive message amidst the hyphy movement. Locksmith also made a name for himself as a battle rapper, appearing on MTV's Freestyle Battle Championship and later competing in GrindTime's Rap Battle League.

Transitioning from battle rap to studio recordings, Locksmith released a series of mixtapes and albums, including The Locktape (2010), I Am Lock (2011), and the Ski Beatz-produced Embedded (2011). He continued to build his discography with projects like Labyrinth (2012) and The Green Box (2013) before dropping his solo debut A Thousand Cuts in 2014, followed by Lofty Goals in 2015, showcasing his evolution as an artist.
