Lil Mama burst onto the music scene at 17 with her hit single "Lip Gloss" in early 2007, quickly becoming a teen rap sensation on the East Coast. Raised in Brooklyn and Harlem, Niatia Kirkland, also known as Lil Mama, found her passion for hip-hop through her father's record label, Familiar Faces. With the support of her father and producer James "Groove" Chambers, she made waves in the industry, eventually signing with Jive Records. Her music gained traction nationally, with her music video for "Lip Gloss" receiving heavy rotation on MTV and BET's 106 & Park, showcasing her impressive choreography skills. Collaborating with notable producers like Scott Storch, Swizz Beatz, and DJ Green Lantern, Lil Mama's debut album under Familiar Faces/Jive Records further solidified her place in the music industry.
