Les Nubians, a unique female duo from Bordeaux, France, emerged in the 1990s with their blend of jazzy R&B infused with French lyrics and influences from Sade, Soul II Soul, hip-hop, and African pop. Comprised of sisters Helene and Celia Faussart, who were born to a French father and Cameroonian mother, the duo's debut album, Princesses Nubiennes, released in 1998, became a success in both Europe and the U.S. Their subsequent releases, including One Step Forward in 2003 and Nü Revolution in 2011, showcased their diverse musical influences and collaborations with artists like Talib Kweli and Manu Dibango.

Les Nubians' musical journey took them from a cappella covers to original compositions, drawing inspiration from artists like Ella Fitzgerald, Fugees, and Miriam Makeba. Their global sound and socially conscious themes were featured on various projects, from the Red Hot tribute to Fela Kuti to UNITY: The Official Athens 2004 Olympic Games album. With Nubians Present Echoes, Chapter One in 2005 and Nü Revolution in 2011, the duo continued to push musical boundaries, blending spoken word and diverse collaborations to create a distinct and innovative musical identity.
