Lebo Morake, a soundtrack composer from Soweto, South Africa, began his musical journey at the age of nine in a local pop band. Despite frustrations with the corruption in the apartheid South African music industry, he eventually found success after relocating to America and collaborating with composer Hans Zimmer. Their work on The Power Of One and The Lion King earned them a Grammy award for best instrumental arrangement with accompanying vocal in 1995. Lebo went on to score the Broadway stage adaptation of The Lion King, showcasing his diverse musical talents in hip-hop, R&B, orchestration, and traditional African elements.

His involvement in various projects, including working with Quincy Jones on a charity tribute album for Nelson Mandela's 80th birthday, highlighted Lebo's versatility as a musician and composer. Through his innovative approach to blending authentic African rhythms with Western music styles, Lebo Morake has made a significant impact on the music industry, earning recognition for his contributions to iconic soundtracks and stage productions.
