Biography

Formed in 1998 by Bikini Kill founder Kathleen Hanna, Le Tigre was a feminist-oriented trio that mixed punk, eclectic pop, and lo-fi electronics. The group incorporated multimedia and performance art into their live shows, often featuring like-minded acts such as the Need. After releasing their debut album in 1999, Le Tigre followed up with a more politically charged second album, Feminist Sweepstakes, in 2001. The band went on to release This Island in 2004, marking a leap to a major label.

Kathleen Hanna, along with filmmaker Sadie Benning and zine creator Johanna Fateman, founded Le Tigre in 1998 as a project inspired by Hanna's Julie Ruin solo work. Known for their blend of punk, playful samples, and feminist themes, the trio introduced a more sophisticated sound on their second album, Feminist Sweepstakes, released in 2001.
