Large Professor initially gained recognition as a producer and MC with the rap group Main Source before transitioning into a successful full-time producer, collaborating with artists such as Big Daddy Kane and A Tribe Called Quest. After winning a tryout with Main Source in 1989, he played a significant role in the group's creative direction before parting ways due to creative differences. Large Professor went on to produce for renowned acts like Eric B. & Rakim, Nas, and Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth. His solo debut album, 2002's 1st Class, featured guest appearances from Nas, Q-Tip, and Busta Rhymes, while his 2008 release, Main Source, included contributions from Big Noyd, AZ, and Styles P.
