Biography

Formed in 2007 in Stavanger, Norway, Kvelertak's name translates to "stranglehold" in Norwegian. Their self-released demo, Westcoast Holocaust, was followed by their debut album, Kvelertak, in 2010, certified gold in Norway for over 15,000 copies sold. The band received two Spellemannprisen Awards in 2011 and their song "Mjød" was featured in the film The Troll Hunter.

Kvelertak's second album, Meir, released in 2013, was followed by their third studio album, Nattesferd in 2016. The band toured with Metallica on their WorldWired Tour and with Ghost on their Popestar Tour in 2017. In 2018, Erlend Hjelvik departed, with Ivar Nikolaisen announced as his replacement, having previously collaborated with the band.
