Krystian Zimerman

Krystian Zimerman, a renowned Polish pianist, is highly regarded for his sensitive and precise interpretations across a wide repertoire from Beethoven to Witold Lutosławski. Born in Zabrze in 1956, Zimerman achieved early success by winning the International Chopin Competition in 1975 and quickly established himself as a leading pianist, performing with prestigious orchestras and conductors. He is known for his association with Deutsche Grammophon and his unique approach of playing on his customized Steinway pianos.

With over 40 recordings to his name, Zimerman took a hiatus from recording in the late 1990s, returning in 2017 with a Schubert sonatas album. In 2021, he released his second cycle of Beethoven's piano concertos with the London Symphony Orchestra, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to innovative and exceptional musical performances, including his meticulous attention to instrument preparation for each recording.
