Kokane, a veteran of the West Coast rap scene, found his breakthrough success in 2000 with Snoop Dogg's album Tha Last Meal, showcasing his unique blend of fluid rapping and P-funk-influenced singing on eight tracks. With a musical upbringing influenced by his Motown composer father and a love for '70s funk, Kokane's early career in the mid-'80s led to collaborations with N.W.A and Above the Law before releasing solo albums that struggled to gain mainstream traction. However, a pivotal feature on Dr. Dre's "Some L.A. Niggaz" track in 2001 led to a partnership with Snoop Dogg's Dogghouse Records, reigniting promise in Kokane's enduring music career.
