From his early days in Glasgow to his move to London in 1997, where he established Hyperdub in 2004, Kode9's influence spans genres like dubstep, juke/footwork, broken beat, garage, and grime. His collaborations with artists like Spaceape and Burial have shaped his discography, including albums like Memories of the Future (2006), Black Sun (2011), and Nothing (2015), as well as mix CDs like Fabriclive 100 (2018).

In addition to his music career, Kode9 is known for his writings on sound and culture, including the book Sonic Warfare: Sound, Affect, and the Ecology of Fear. Following the passing of Spaceape and DJ Rashad in 2014, Kode9 focused on DJ'ing and label operations before returning to production with releases like Fabriclive 100 (2018) and Escapology (2022). His latest work, including the Astro-Darien project and the single "Infirmary," showcases his innovative blend of footwork, jazz, and jungle elements, solidifying his position as a leading figure in the electronic music landscape.
