Kindred the Family Soul, a Grammy-nominated adult contemporary R&B duo from Philadelphia, consists of husband and wife Fatin Dantzler and Aja Graydon. Despite a lack of big hit singles, they garnered a devoted following for their authentic and mature R&B sound, rooted in traditional soul and gospel, with a contemporary twist thanks to co-producers like Anthony Bell and James Poyser. Both artists initially pursued solo careers before joining forces and gaining recognition at the Black Lily club, where they were discovered by Jill Scott and signed to Hidden Beach Recordings.

Their debut album, Surrender to Love, released in 2003, featured collaborations with notable artists such as Jill Scott, Bilal, and Jazmine Sullivan, earning a Grammy nomination for Best R&B/Soul Album. Kindred the Family Soul continued to release albums, including In This Life Together in 2005 and The Arrival in 2008, which reached number 67 on the Billboard 200. Their subsequent albums, such as Love Has No Recession in 2011 and A Couple Friends in 2014, showcased their evolving sound and featured a range of guest artists. Legacy of Love, their sixth album released in 2016, achieved success by climbing into the Top 15 of the Billboard R&B chart.
