The zouk scene originated from a studio collaboration led by Guadeloupian Pierre-Edouard Decimus in the late '70s, after his success with Les Vikings de la Guadeloupe. Teaming up with his brother Georges and Jacob Desvarieux in Paris, they incorporated Antilles musical traditions with modern recording technology, leading to the birth of zouk music by 1985.
