Biography

Formed in Los Angeles in 1989, Hole was known for their abrasive sound in the early '90s. Led by vocalist/guitarist Courtney Love, the band evolved to incorporate more melodies and hooks by their second album, 1994's Live Through This. Love's confrontational persona influenced the band's music and lyrics, giving them a raw, unpredictable edge. Despite personal turmoil, including the deaths of Kurt Cobain and bassist Kristen M. Pfaff, Hole achieved commercial success with Live Through This, which was certified platinum and received critical acclaim.

Following a hiatus, Hole regrouped in 1998 to release their third album, Skin, with mixed reception. The band faced internal changes and legal battles, leading to uncertainty about their future. Love briefly formed a new project called Bastard in 2001 before officially announcing the end of Hole in 2002. Love continued her music career with a solo album in 2004 and later revived Hole for the release of Nobody's Daughter in 2010, showcasing a new lineup and renewed energy in their performances.
