Grupo5 is a renowned cumbia orchestra from Peru, founded on January 31, 1973 in Monsefú-Chiclayo by brothers Elmer and Víctor Yaipen Uypán. They gained recognition as the "Grupo de Oro del Perú" with hits like "Recuérdame" and "No pongas ese disco," earning awards and gold records for their discography.
Following the passing of a founder in 1999, a new generation led by Elmer and Andy Yaipén took over, with Christian officially joining in 2015 after graduating from Berklee College of Music. Grupo5 has collaborated with notable artists such as Gian Marco Zignago, Eddy Herrera, and Noel Schajris, performing on prestigious stages worldwide, including Gran Rex in Buenos Aires and Movistar Arena in Chile. Christian Yaipén also serves as a coach on La Voz Perú and achieved record-breaking sold-out concerts in 2023, drawing over 150,000 fans at the Estadio de la Universidad Nacional de San Marcos and more than 60,000 at Jardín de la Cerveza in Arequipa.
