Originating from Bayonne, France, heavy metal band Gojira formed in 1996 and consists of Joe Duplantier, Christian Andreu, Jean-Michel Labadie, and Mario Duplantier. Their debut album, Terra Incognita, released in 2000, showcased their unique blend of thrash, death, groove, and progressive metal influences. Despite early independent releases, their third album, From Mars to Sirius, marked a turning point for the band, leading to critical acclaim and extensive touring opportunities.
In 2012, Gojira signed with major label Roadrunner Records and released L'Enfant Sauvage, followed by the Grammy-nominated Magma in 2016 and the successful Fortitude in 2021. The band's dynamic sound and environmentally themed lyrics have garnered global recognition, culminating in a historic performance at the 2024 Olympic opening ceremony. Gojira continues to push boundaries in the metal genre, earning accolades and nominations for their impactful music and live performances.
