Europe, originally known as Force, is a Swedish rock band formed in the early '80s. The group achieved international success after rebranding and shifting their sound to a bombastic pop-metal style. Core members Joey Tempest, John Norum, Tony Reno, and John Leven won a national talent contest and secured a record deal, leading to the release of albums like Europe and Wings of Tomorrow. With the addition of keyboardist Mic Michaeli, Europe's breakthrough came in 1986 with the release of The Final Countdown, which spawned hit singles like the title track and "Carrie."
Following the success of The Final Countdown, Europe continued to release albums like Out of This World and Prisoners in Paradise before disbanding in the early '90s. The group reunited in the late '90s and went on to release several more albums, including Start from the Dark, Secret Society, and Last Look at Eden. Inspired by classic rock bands, Europe's sound evolved over the years, culminating in their 2017 album Walk the Earth produced by Dave Cobb at Abbey Road Studios.
