Vince Clarke, a former member of Depeche Mode, founded Erasure in 1985 with singer Andy Bell after the dissolution of Yazoo. Erasure, a synth-based group with dance influences, gained success with albums like 1988's The Innocents, which included hits such as "Chains of Love" and "A Little Respect." The duo maintained their popularity with albums like 1994's "Always" and continued to release music into the 2010s, achieving their first U.K. Top Ten album in 20 years with 2017's World Be Gone.
Before Erasure, Clarke was a member of Depeche Mode and later formed Yazoo with Alison Moyet. After various musical projects, he teamed up with Bell for Erasure. The duo's early albums, including Wonderland and The Circus, paved the way for their chart-topping success in the U.K. with albums like Wild! and Chorus. Over the years, Erasure continued to release new music, with notable albums such as 2005's Nightbird and 2014's The Violet Flame. Their 2017 release, World Be Gone, marked a return to the U.K. Top Ten and was followed by subsequent live and reimagined recordings.
