Enigma, formed in 1990 by Bucharest native Michael Cretu, gained international acclaim for their unique blend of new age tones, chilled-out club production, and Gregorian chant samples. Their debut single "Sadeness (Pt. I)" in 1991 marked the beginning of their successful career, which saw the release of eight albums and collections over the next three decades, many of which charted on the Billboard charts.
Cretu's fascination with incorporating Gregorian chants into contemporary music led to the formation of Enigma, with the debut album MCMXC a.D. released in 1990. The album's unexpected success was followed by subsequent releases like Cross of Changes in 1993 and Seven Lives Many Faces in 2008, maintaining Enigma's presence in the music industry. Their 2016 concept album, The Fall of a Rebel Angel, featured collaborations with various artists and continued their legacy of blending diverse musical elements.
