Led by pianist and musical director Rafael Ithier, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico is a prominent dance band known for their Latin rhythms and vocal harmonies. Formed in 1962, the 13-piece salsa group has released hits such as "El Menu" and "Timablero," with notable albums like En Las Vegas and In Alaska: Breaking the Ice. Over the years, the band has experienced lineup changes, with Ithier and alto saxophonist Eddie Perez being the only remaining original members.
Despite personnel changes, El Gran Combo has continued to evolve, adding new members and releasing successful albums like Aquí Estamos y...De Verdad! and Arroz con Habichuela. Celebrating their 50th anniversary with 50 Aniversario, Vol. 1, the band remains active, touring internationally and maintaining a strong presence in the Latin music scene.
