Deee-Lite, led by vocalist Lady Miss Kier and DJs Super DJ Dmitry and Jungle DJ Towa Towa, rose to fame with their hit single "Groove Is in the Heart," blending various musical genres with a flamboyant visual style inspired by New York's club culture and drag queen community. Their debut album, World Clique, released in 1990, was a commercial success featuring iconic tracks like "Groove Is in the Heart" and "Power of Love." In subsequent years, the group's music took on political themes in their album Infinity Within, and after disbanding in 1996, the members pursued individual careers in DJing, producing, and solo projects like Towa Tei's Future Listening.

Following their breakup, Deee-Lite's members ventured into different musical endeavors, with Dmitry moving to Berlin to focus on production, Towa Tei pursuing a solo career and joining the supergroup Metafive, and Lady Miss Kier continuing her DJ career. In 2017, Cherry Red reissued their debut album, World Clique, in a deluxe set, including remixes and an interview with Kier, cementing the legacy of Deee-Lite in the realm of dance music.
