Debra Laws

Debra Laws, sister to renowned musicians Hubert, Ronnie, and Eloise Laws, made a significant impact in the jazz, funk, and R&B scenes. She gained recognition after collaborating with her siblings and contributing to albums by various artists. Debra signed with Elektra and released the successful album Very Special in 1981, produced by Hubert and Ronnie Laws. The title track became a quiet storm radio hit and has since been sampled by notable artists such as Big Daddy Kane, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Lopez, and K. Michelle. Despite a gap in album releases until 1993, Debra Laws continued to perform at prestigious venues and festivals, while also lending her talents to recordings by artists like Jeffrey Osborne, Betty Wright, and Stevie Wonder, and even dabbling in acting on Broadway and in film and television productions.
