Biography

Deborah Cox, a Toronto native, began singing at a young age and started writing her own material with producer Lascelles Stephens. Discovered by Arista Records president Clive Davis, Cox released her debut album in 1995, followed by successful releases like One Wish in 1998 and The Morning After in 2002. She ventured into musical theater in 2012 and returned to R&B with The Promise in 2008, featuring collaborations with John Legend and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. Cox also starred in the Jekyll & Hyde musical revival and provided the singing voice for the Whitney Houston TV biopic in 2015.

In addition to her music career, Cox joined the U.S. tour of The Bodyguard musical in 2016 and released an EP of Whitney Houston covers titled I Will Always Love You in 2017. She continued to collaborate with other artists, contributing a rendition of "This Nearly Was Mine" to Billy Porter's album The Soul of Richard Rodgers.
