Emerging in 1980 from the remnants of punk band Crisis, Death in June was founded by Douglas Pearce and Tony Wakeford, with Patrick Leagas completing the original lineup. The group faced criticism for their use of fascist imagery, and charges of Nazism plagued Pearce's career. Despite lineup changes, Pearce continued Death in June as a solo project, collaborating with various artists and evolving their sound from abrasive electronics to a more expansive sonic approach, incorporating traditional European folk music influences.

Over the years, Death in June released a series of albums, including All Pigs Must Die in 2001 with Andreas Ritter, Alarm Agents in 2004 with Boyd Rice, and collaborations with David Tibet. The band's sound shifted back to neo-folk with The Rule of Thirds in 2008, and they released live recordings and re-recorded collections of their catalog material. Despite controversies and lineup changes, Death in June's discography showcases their musical evolution and enduring presence in the industrial music scene.
