Biography

Formed in Melbourne in 1981 by Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard, Dead Can Dance blends European folk, ambient pop, and worldbeat influences to create a unique sound. After relocating to London and signing with 4AD in the early 1980s, the duo released a series of acclaimed albums, including the popular compilation A Passage in Time in 1991. The band ceased operations in 1998 but reunited in 2005 for a tour and officially re-formed in 2012, releasing their 12th studio album Anastasis and later Dionysus in 2018.

Drawing inspiration from European folk traditions and religious practices, Dead Can Dance's music reflects a blend of secular and spiritual influences. Their album Dionysus, released in 2018, was inspired by ancient spring and harvest festivals rooted in Dionysian religious practices across Europe. Following its release, the duo embarked on their largest European tour yet in 2019, titled 'A Celebration - Life & Works 1980 - 2019,' performing their most beloved songs across 26 shows.
