Daniel Bedingfield, a contemporary rocker and singer/songwriter from southeast London, found early success with his hit song "Gotta Get Thru This," recorded in his bedroom with a simple setup. The track quickly rose to the top of the U.K. singles chart after its independent release by Relentless Records in December 2001, propelling Bedingfield to local celebrity status at just 21 years old. He signed with Polydor UK and released his debut album, Gotta Get Thru This, in 2002, followed by Second First Impression in 2005. After a hiatus, Bedingfield returned in 2012 with the single "Rocks Off" and the EP Stop the Traffik - Secret Fear, the first of three planned releases that year.
