Biography
CSS, the dance-rock sextet from São Paulo, Brazil, formed in 2003 and took their name from the Portuguese abbreviation for "tired of being sexy." The band gained fame through their unique sound crafted from meeting at clubs and online networking groups. CSS released their debut album in Brazil in 2005 before signing with Sub Pop for a North American release in 2006. Their song "Music Is My Hot, Hot Sex" was featured in an iPod commercial and became the highest-charting single by a Brazilian band in Billboard history. CSS continued to evolve with their second album, Donkey, and collaborations with artists like Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie and Ratatat, leading to the release of La Liberación in 2011 before parting ways with their producer and member Adriano Cintra.
After forming in 2003, CSS quickly gained attention for their Net-savvy ways and unpretentious sound, eventually signing with Sub Pop for their North American debut in 2006. The band's song "Music Is My Hot, Hot Sex" featured in an iPod commercial, achieving chart success, while their evolution continued with collaborations on their third album, La Liberación, in 2011. Despite parting ways with producer Adriano Cintra, CSS returned in 2012 with their fourth studio album, Planta, showcasing their continued musical growth and experimentation.
