Biography

Crossfade is a hard rock/heavy metal band based in Columbia, SC. The group formed in the late '90s when singer/guitarist Ed Sloan joined forces with bassist Mitch James and drummer Brian Geiger, initially known as the power trio the Nothing. Sloan, a Columbia native, had a background in grunge and heavy metal music, while Geiger had been playing drums since childhood and James was inspired to take up the bass after attending a David Lee Roth concert. The band later added singer and DJ Tony Byroads, who had relocated to Columbia from Buffalo, NY.

Renamed Sugardaddy Superstar, the band gained attention outside their local scene after attracting the interest of Los Angeles A&R company Taxi and promoter Chris Long. This led to a showcase in L.A. in 2002 and a subsequent record deal with Columbia Records' Earshot subsidiary. Under the new name Crossfade, the band released their self-titled album in 2004, which achieved platinum certification by 2005. Following lineup changes, the band continued to tour and released their second album, Falling Away, in 2006.
