Compay Segundo

Legendary Cuban guitarist Compay Segundo, born in 1907, was a highly respected musician of the pre-revolution era. He is credited with inventing the armónico, a guitar customized with a double third string that fused Cuban and Spanish guitar tonal qualities. Following a hiatus, he gained worldwide attention in 1998 for his contributions to Ry Cooder's Buena Vista Social Club album, releasing solo works like Calle Salud, Buena Vista Connection, and Flores de la Vida in quick succession. Despite his passing in 2003 due to kidney failure, Segundo's legacy lives on through his prolific musical contributions.
