Formed in 1982 by John Balance, Coil expanded with the addition of Peter Christopherson in 1983. Their early releases, including the debut single "How to Destroy Angels" and the album "Scatology," showcased intense industrial noise themes of alchemy. Through the years, Coil continued to experiment and collaborate with various artists, delving into visual media and incorporating diverse musical influences.

After the tragic passing of John Balance in 2004, Peter Christopherson explored other projects, including Threshold HouseBoys Choir and a reunited Throbbing Gristle. He also oversaw the release of Coil's archival material, such as "The New Backwards" and live DVDs. Christopherson's own passing in 2010 marked the end of an era for Coil, but their legacy lives on through reissues and unreleased material, ensuring their place in the experimental music pantheon.
