Formed in the '70s by Dieter Moebius, Hans-Joachim Roedelius, and Conrad Schnitzler, Cluster (originally Kluster) was a pioneering space rock unit that pushed boundaries with their innovative use of synthesizers and unconventional instruments in live performances. Transitioning to a duo, Moebius and Roedelius collaborated with a diverse range of artists, from Brian Eno to Michael Rother, shaping the German kosmische music scene. Cluster's exploration of ambient music continued into the '90s, setting them apart from their peers who moved towards new age sounds.

Originating from the Zodiak Free Arts Lab in Berlin, Cluster's experimental beginnings led to a fruitful career marked by groundbreaking releases like Zuckerzeit and collaborations with the likes of Eno and Rother. Despite periods of solo work and hiatuses, the duo reunited periodically for performances until their final concert in 2010. Following Moebius's passing in 2015, Cluster's legacy was honored with reissues and compilations, solidifying their status as legends in the space rock genre.
