Biography

Pioneering the industrial music movement of the 1980s, Chrome emerged with a unique blend of distorted guitars, TV samples, and punk influences, drawing inspiration from bands like the Stooges. Despite a short six-year tenure, Chrome released a vast discography, including nine full LPs and numerous EPs and singles. Formed in 1977 in San Francisco, the band's sound evolved significantly with the addition of guitarist Helios Creed, known for his grinding guitar style and tape manipulation techniques that characterized Chrome's signature sound.

Chrome's trajectory included a major-label stint with Beggars Banquet/WEA in 1980 for their third album, Red Exposure, before returning to independent labels like Dossier for subsequent releases. Following their breakup in 1982, Helios Creed pursued a successful solo career, while Damon Edge continued sporadically under the Chrome moniker until his passing in 1995. A reunion with former bandmates in 1997 marked a resurgence for Chrome, leading to further releases in the 2010s with an expanded lineup that included keyboardist Tommy Grenas, drummer Aleph Omega, guitarist Lou Minatti, and bassist Steve "Trash" Fishman.
