Catatonia

Catatonia, a Welsh band formed in the early '90s, blended jangling alternative rock with indie rock flair, led by vocalist Cerys Matthews and guitarist/vocalist Mark Roberts. Their debut EP, For Tinkerbell, was released in 1993, followed by their successful albums Way Beyond Blue and International Velvet in the late '90s. However, after the release of Paper Scissors Stone in 2001, Matthews departed due to health reasons, leading to the band's disbandment.

Catatonia's sound was defined by their punchy indie rock approach, with hits like "You've Got a Lot to Answer For" and "Mulder and Scully" propelling them to British chart success. Despite Matthews' departure in 2001, the band continued briefly under a different name before ultimately disbanding. Their legacy remains rooted in their distinctive sound that reinvigorated traditional pop with a fresh, amateurish energy during the post-Brit-pop era of the mid-'90s.
