Biography

The Carpenters, a musical duo formed in the late '60s in Downey, California, consisted of siblings Karen and Richard Carpenter. Their music featured Karen's distinctive vocals set against Richard's precise arrangements. The duo gained popularity in the '70s, winning four Grammy Awards and achieving multiple Top Ten hits, including the chart-topping "(They Long to Be) Close to You."

Following Karen's tragic death in 1983, Richard Carpenter focused on production work and released a solo album in 1987. He continued to curate and release posthumous albums featuring unreleased Carpenters tracks alongside solo recordings by Karen. In 2018, Richard oversaw the production of "Carpenters with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra," reworking the duo's original songs with orchestral arrangements.
