Carlinhos Brown

Carlinhos Brown, a versatile musician known for his skills as a percussionist, composer, and vocalist, rose to fame with the release of albums following his 1996 record, Alfagamabetizado. His extensive catalog includes over 200 songs recorded by various artists such as Marisa Monte, Gal Costa, and Sepultura, with more than 30 of them reaching the top of the Brazilian charts. Brown's collaborations with artists like Sérgio Mendes and Herbie Hancock have earned him critical acclaim, including a Grammy award for his contributions to Brasileiro.

Rooted in the rich tradition of Brazilian folklore, particularly that of Bahia, Carlinhos Brown's musical journey began under the guidance of his mentor, Mestre Pintado do Bongô. As one of Bahia's most respected percussionists, Brown honed his craft while working in a recording studio in Salvador, where he also delved into songwriting and production. His early compositions, such as "Visão Do Ciclope" and "Meia Lua Inteira," gained recognition through collaborations with iconic artists like Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, and Gal Costa. In the '90s, Brown founded the Timbalada, a drum band focused on promoting social initiatives for underprivileged youth in Salvador, marking the beginning of his impactful career dedicated to both music and community service.
