Capital Cities, an indie electro outfit from Los Angeles, initially gained recognition for crafting commercial jingles before transitioning to pop music. Their synth-infused tracks "Safe and Sound" and "Kangaroo Court" gained popularity, leading to their debut album In a Tidal Wave of Mystery making its mark on the Billboard 200. The duo, comprised of Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian, formed in 2011 through Craigslist, with their upbeat hit "Safe and Sound" propelling them to mainstream success.
Following their successful debut, Capital Cities continued to captivate audiences with their 2018 release Solarize, which featured a collaboration with rapper Rick Ross on the track "Girl Friday." In 2025, they unveiled a comprehensive collection titled A Hurricane Of Frowns, comprising new material, unreleased rarities, remixes, and covers, offering a unique twist on their previous work, including a reimagined version of "Farrah Fawcett Hair" featuring André 3000.
