Biography

Byron Cage, influenced by gospel singers such as Rev. Donald Vails and Thomas Whitfield, embarked on his musical journey as a teenager. He served as music director at the New Birth Church in Atlanta and later as a minister of music at Ebenezer AME Church in Fort Washington, MD. Forming the group Purpose in the mid-'90s, Cage released three impactful live albums: Transparent in Your Presence, Dwell Among Us, and The Prince of Praise. His work earned him five Stellar Awards for The Prince of Praise in 2003 and a Grammy nomination for An Invitation to Worship in 2006. Additional albums include Live at the Apollo: The Proclamation (2007), Faithful to Believe (2009), and Memoirs of a Worshipper (2012).
