Biography

Built to Spill, the Boise, Idaho-based indie rock band, blends elements of postmodern pop akin to Pavement with the expansive jamming style of Neil Young. Fronted by singer/songwriter/guitarist Doug Martsch, the band's intricate guitar arrangements and rough-edged live performances have solidified their reputation as an exciting act. Beginning in 1993, Martsch formed the group after departing Treepeople and has since navigated through lineup changes while maintaining their signature sound on acclaimed albums like Perfect from Now On and Untethered Moon.

Originating in Boise, Built to Spill emerged in the '90s under Martsch's leadership, evolving from his earlier musical endeavors in Twin Falls, Idaho, and Seattle. The band's creative breakthrough with 1994's There's Nothing Wrong with Love led to a deal with Warner Bros., propelling them to alt-rock prominence. Subsequent releases like Keep It Like a Secret showcased the band's collaborative songwriting process and earned critical acclaim.
