Brown Boy

Latin rap music began to gain more national attention in the 2000s, with artists like Cypress Hill and Big Punisher making exceptions. In the American Southwest, Latino/a rappers, such as California's Brown Boy, have always been competing for radio airplay alongside more well-known artists. Brown Boy, known for his hit slow jam "Superman," gained popularity on radio stations and even made it to Billboard's Top Rhythmic 40 in 2006. Despite being influenced by groups like Lighter Shade of Brown, Brown Boy's music evolved to reflect his Chicano pride, as seen in his albums Change the Game, Represent the Brown, Livin' Shady, and Chicano Rap Riderz.
