Biography
Bobby Vee emerged as a pop sensation in the early '60s, rising to fame after replacing Buddy Holly on tour and releasing hits like "Take Good Care of My Baby" and "The Night Has a Thousand Eyes." Born in Fargo, North Dakota, Vee's career was jumpstarted when he and his band, the Shadows, were given the opportunity to record after Holly's tragic death. Despite the rise of the British Invasion impacting his popularity, Vee continued to chart hits throughout the decade before transitioning to the rock & roll oldies circuit. He passed away in 2016 at the age of 73, leaving behind a legacy of infectious Brill Building pop.
Bobby Vee's early success was propelled by his ebullient voice and the support of the Brill Building songwriters. With hits like "Devil or Angel" and "Rubber Ball," Vee cemented his place in the pop music scene of the time. Despite attempts to adapt to changing musical trends, including a venture into British Invasion-style recordings, Vee found enduring success through his nostalgic rock & roll performances. His career spanned the '60s, with notable hits and forays into acting before ultimately settling into the rock & roll oldies circuit until his passing in 2016.
