Formed in 1976 by Israel Romero and Rafael Orozco, Binomio de Oro de America emerged as a prominent group in the vallenato genre. Initially focused on traditional music, the duo later incorporated cumbia and other Latin influences into their repertoire. In 1993, Romero assumed sole leadership of the band following Orozco's tragic death at the hands of an organized crime group.
