Biography

Billy Ocean achieved international success in the '80s with a string of hit singles, including "Caribbean Queen" and "Get Outta My Dreams, Get into My Car." Despite a decline in new hits after the '90s, his '80s songs like "When the Going Gets Tough" have maintained popularity, allowing him to sustain a music career into the 21st century. Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Ocean moved to England as a child and began his music career in his teens, scoring his first major hit with "Love Really Hurts Without You" in 1975 under his stage name. His breakthrough came with the release of his fifth album, Suddenly, in 1984, which produced several chart-topping singles and established him as an international star.

Ocean's success continued with albums like Love Zone and Tear Down These Walls in the late '80s, culminating in the platinum-selling Greatest Hits compilation in 1989. After a hiatus, he returned to music in 2007 with a worldwide tour and released his first album in 16 years, Because I Love You, in 2009. Subsequent releases included a hits compilation and an album of covers, leading up to his 2020 LP One World, showcasing his enduring collaboration with songwriter Barry Eastmond.
