BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra

The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Scotland's national broadcasting orchestra and one of Europe's top orchestras, was founded in 1935 as the BBC Scottish Orchestra. Initially based in Edinburgh, it later moved to Glasgow and expanded its reach through live performances in the U.K. and internationally. Over the years, the orchestra has been led by renowned conductors like Norman Del Mar and Thomas Dausgaard, and has recorded extensively, including a notable release of Sibelius' Kullervo under Dausgaard's direction in 2019 on the Hyperion label.

In addition to its BBC studio performances, the BBC SSO has ventured into public performances, international tours, and festival appearances, showcasing its versatility and musical excellence. With a rich history dating back to its inception by Ian Whyte, the orchestra has maintained a strong presence in the classical music world, attracting audiences with its dynamic interpretations and recordings that continue to captivate listeners worldwide.
