Drawing inspiration from a diverse range of musical genres, Maal challenged the monopoly of the griot caste by fusing traditional African instruments with an innovative electronic approach. His acclaimed solo albums, including "Wango" and "The Traveller," showcase his unique sound that blurs diverse musical forms and reflects his passion for exploration. Maal is also celebrated for his collaboration with artists like Mumford & Sons and for his role in creating the sound of Marvel's Black Panther movies. His upcoming album, "Being," is set to be released on March 31st, 2023, via Marathon Artists.

Baaba Maal's musical journey began in the 1970s when he joined the 70-piece Asly Fouta and later teamed up with Mansour Seck to record the album "Djam Leelii." Forming the group Daande Lenol, Maal continued to push boundaries with his unique sound that transcends cultural boundaries.
