Influenced by disco icons Donna Summer and Gloria Gaynor, sisters Toñi and Encarna Salazar aspired to be pop stars. After gaining experience in music, they formed Azucar Moreno in 1984 and achieved success with their albums Con la Piel en Los Labios (1984) and Carne de Melocotón (1988), blending flamenco and pop elements. Collaborating with producers Emilio Estefan and Estefano, the duo won a Billboard Music Award and became top-selling Latin pop artists.
